World-renowned scholar and Nobel Laureate Dr. R. Buckminster Fuller
Marshall Thurber is an educator, scholar, businessman, inventor,
attorney, real estate developer, editor, author, and visionary.
In the 1970’s, along with two partners, Marshall started
Hawthorne/Stone and built it into highly successful real estate firm in
California. Using innovative ‘win-win’ business theories and methods
developed by Marshall, his company restored over 150 Victorian homes in
San Francisco.
Following his success in real estate, Marshall co-founded the Burklyn
Business School in Vermont. The school was designed to teach the global
principles of cooperation and abundance he learned from Dr. R.
Buckminster Fuller and the contextual principles of the human potential
movement. The unique teaching methods employed at Burklyn included
Superlearning Technologies™. These balanced brain simulations were
designed by Marshall to create powerful learning experiences. One of
his popular sayings is - “A truth believed is only a belief. A truth
experienced is truth.”

In his private consulting business, Marshall has consulted for high profile clients that include: ITT
Industries, Sheraton Hotels, The US Navy, Ernst & Young,
Panavision, Neill Corporation, Hewlett Packard, GTE, The Neenan
Company, Systems West, Bentley Management Corp., Liberty Helicopters,
Columbia Artists Management Inc., Mendocino Forest Products, and
Chicken Soup for the Soul Books. Mr. Thurber received his
undergraduate degree from Union College, and his law degree from
Hastings College of Law, University of California. He was a founding
partner of the Fisher Thurber law firm and serves as Of Counsel to the
Firm, specializing in business management practices.
His
many honors include the "Cohen H. Kerr Award" for highest academic
achievement in an undergraduate class at Boston University; Boston
University's "Utopia Award"; Union College's Gold Key Award for
outstanding service to the school; the "Maud Glover Folsom Foundation
Award" given to one individual each year in the United States; and a
State of Hawaii Senate Resolution specifically acknowledging Mr.
Thurber's "outstanding contribution to furthering overall human
success."
Marshall’s most recent work is a new program called The Success Secrets for the 21st Century. This course combines his experience from the past 30 years of living
Buckminster Fuller’s generalized principles with his new research in
the concepts of network science and positive deviancy.
Marshall has also assembled a group of successful entrepreneurs,
business leaders, philanthropists, and other positive deviants in his
yearlong program called The Positive Deviant Network. In this program
the members work with each other to put into practice the theories
learned in Success Secrets and support each other in developing
solutions for transformational change.
